going to the corner
in the morning for eggs
and some sausages.
returning, minutes later,
for bacon and cartons
of milk. 11am; daylight
risen, like rocks
which creep up
under boats.
these shallows;
these hard jags
of mind rising
memory. I come back
with the bag
emptied out
on the counter. chrys
making breakfast;
she knows
what we need.

DS Maolalai has been described by one editor as "a cosmopolitan poet" and another as "prolific, bordering on incontinent".
